basic building blocks

As some of you may remember last year for halloween tristan dressed up as a port-a-potty, or johnny on the spot to you americans.

She is a quirky thing.

She's just like me, never one to follow the crowd, bucking the trends. She has never had a single toy that she enjoyed. She'd rather be reading a book or hanging out with any available adults.

This year she is doing band for the first time. All the girls picked out the flute or clarinet. Her? The trombone. The honking daily practice that has ensued has tested every inch of patience i have for large ducks being murdered in my house.

She is definitely my daughter. When i started band i picked the most obscure instrument i could think of, the bassoon.

This year for halloween she is being santa's evil twin. When i was nine i dressed up as elton john's sunglasses.

I was a table once.

If I were trick or treating today, I think I'd be sushi.

That is one cool daughter.

My kids have been totaly UN-PC the last couple of years and keep the Cowboy tradition...I think Caity will be the only Cowgirl amongst the princesses and sluts.

I played the oboe, but I think the bassoon is harder. I love that your daughter is playing the trombone.

Elton John's sunglasses, really? ha!

That is one creative sounding kid you have there. Please post a pic.

There is a bumper stick on a van in our town that your daughter may want for her car one with that sense of humor. It says: 667 - Neighbor of the Beast
Cracks me up every time I see it at the grocery store (small town).

I chose the Tenor Sax. I swear the thing was bigger than I was at 11. Coincidentally, it was so big that boys offered to carry it home for me ;-)

Boring children are so vapid.
Tristan is the kind of kid I could spend time with.

When I was a kid, I would always pick the costumes that the other kids would not get.

"Hey - hello, gypsey!"
"I'm not a gypsey."
"What are you?"
"I'm a medium."
"A what?"
"A medium. I channel the spirits of those departed and communicate with living people for them."
"...."
"...it's sort of like a gypsey...."

Prime time television has assured us that this particular exchange will not happen again, but hats off to your daughter for thinking outside the box.

oh - I was coronet. (trumpent? NO! coronet!)

See, why can't I come up with clever things like that? When I was 9, I was Quasimodo, that's the most original I got.

Tristan is my kind of kid. Maybe having a creative name helped.

I think trombones are the funniest instruments ever. Maybe not to listen to when someone is learning, though. My sympathies.

Elton John's sunglasses? Do you have a photo of that?

I can see you two now, busking on the corner with a bassoon and a trombone.

If anyone tries to tell you those aren't the most versatile instruments, you tell them to come talk to me.

your kid is so much cooler than i am. wow.
i am impressed. especially with the portapotty!
once i went to a party with a bf and together we were a chigger and a tick. pretty disgusting.

WOOHOOOO Tristan, sister!! I played the trombone, too! It was so great being a tromboner!

I would take it to friends' basketball games and 'cheer' with it, I loved "awoooga"-ing when they'd net a shot.

Also: One year for Hallowe'en I was a toaster and my best friend was a piece of toast.

A portajohn - that is AWESOME.

I knew a guy who once dressed as a "one night stand" - with a table encircling his body.

Tristan sounds like a really fun kid.

I heart Tristan. My kinda girl.
