temporary, yet irritating

Oh what a weekend i have had, full of many annoyances and even, some laughter and tickle contests.

Things took a slight turn for the worse this afternoon when toby came screaming in the house "RATS! RATS! EVERYWHERE!"

Being very vermin-opposed shane and i hesitantly, yet immediately, got the story out of him. Apparently the large garden box i have outside the chicken coop where i store tarps, cleaning stuff and, most recently and brilliantly, hay for the nesting boxes, has become home to a very large family of rats.

Shane and i went to check it out and standing from a good distance with a broomstick in hand we opened the lid. And! RATS!! EVERYWHERE! They scurried deep within the box when we opened it, but we saw several, definitely more than a few. I leaned in a little closer to see if i could see anymore (why? why did i do that?) and one jumped out. Right at me! I screamed so loud and so much adrenaline shot through me that i pulled the muscles all up and down my sides.

That was fun.

Annoying things i have noticed this weekend but the drug companies assure me are normal:

  • headaches

  • loss of appetite

  • very sleepy

  • where the hell am i?

  • what was i saying?

  • why am i pouring milk and cheerios in the dog dish?

  • oh my god! parker! what's in your cereal bowl!

it will take several weeks to get used to effexor, or most drugs. be patient with yourself.

and i would have FAINTED at the sight of rats. i could barely read your post!

Ugh, rats. I wouldn't have even gone outside to look at them. "Okay, we have rats, let's get someone else to come here and take care of them while I pretend they were never here."

I can't even stand a little field mouse! Feel better soon.

OMG rats are way worse than spiders! I think I would have fainted.
I know I shouldn't laugh but the dog bowl/cereal bowl did give me a chuckle. I've been known to do weird things like that when taking meds for back strain...

We had rats! We used to feed birds on our back deck and then we started feeding crows a bit of supper leftovers, because they were so comical and it all went to hell after that. Gaaa.

Good luck. They are actually not so bad, once you get to know them, but they take over the neighborhood, so best to nip it in the bud.

Hope the side-effect thing is over soon.

I've only ever seen one rat live and in-person and that was while I was waiting for the el to whisk me away to work. It was ten feet away from me and five feet below the platform, yet I cringed. Ugh.

Sorry the meds are wreaking a bit of havoc on your normality. I hope things will smooth out soon for you.

Oh god, rats...I can't even imagine.

My best friend just started a new medication and we were talking about how the side effects are making her feel this morning on the phone. Hang in there, girl. I feel for you.

Rats...I think we have a large community of them residing in our shed. But I'm too scared to go back there and check it out.

I wish I could bring Goldie over. She LOVES rats. As in, loves to love them with her massive jaws until they stop moving.

um, gross. i think i would rather have snakes than rats.

as for the symptoms, i had some really fascinating ones when i started on the lovely meds. my favorite was the hyperintense anxiety! fun! sign me up for more of that.

how are you getting rid of the rats?

oh no, you reminded me about the rat hole i found under the tree on the side of our house...

    crap.

I'm all heebiejeebied out over here. icky raaaaaaats. I'm phobic.

Sounds to me like you country folk need some barn cats. Box cats? Or would they try to eat the chickens?

Last summer I had rats and wasps. I like Nature as long as she sticks to butterflies and flowers :) Don't believe those narsty drug companies...trust your gut. Hopefully the side effects will go away after awhile??

    You must have laaaaazy cats.

My son would happily eat kibble out of the (rather bemused) dog's dish when he was a baby - although I never served it to him...
you'll be back to normal soon!

would cats even kill rats? my cat is barely bigger than your average rat. eeew. i should stop thinking about this.

    my best to you jess.
