style me like i've never been styled before

Okay, so this summer i'm going to this thing (ssshhhhh blogher).

I jokingly asked someone (ssshhhh jenB!) if she could style me for the event. You see all my clothes they come from *cough* costco or old navy. I've become cheap. I've become stuck in the costco summer cropped pants and jeans in the winter. On top? I wear t-shirts and sweaters. And coats. Lots of coats. And scarves.

And california? That place is foreign to me. People with big lips and big boobs? Actually, i have big lips and big boobs. Just not that kind of big boobs. Big post-lactating boobs and ripply middle section.

So do me! What can i wear? Five feet seven inches, size 10 and hating of the tight clothes. Liking the black. Hating the white. Loving sandals and black boots. Nothing in between. No credit.

well, i dress like you do, so no help from this corner. but looking at the photos from last year it did seem as though most people were just wearing t-shirts and jeans or what-all. not so many coats, though.

well, first of all, Jealous is my middle name.
Black Jealous Bird.
and second of all, you could stick with Old Navy, but why not do a couple of skirts?
I love the way skirts and tee shirts take you anywhere and look good --
they have some striped ones on tv right now that are rip-offs of Jcrew ones that look great.

T-shirts, capris, light skirts are fine, IMO, for this event. Accessorizing is big though. I know that several long necklaces are in. Bracelets. Belts. I've seen alot of those straw espadrilles we used to wear as kids in the magazines I drool over.

If you want something that looks a bit more formal and like black, nothing beats a little black dress and some strappy high heeled sandles. I bought my favourite summer dress as Jacob. It's my favourite store because everything is neatly lined and they resist hideous pattern as much as I do!

Wag

I think the foreign California land you have in mind is in Los Angeles. ;-) I've lived at both ends of the state and they really are two totally different worlds with different styles of dress.

Up here in Northern California you will fit right in. I'd agree with Blackbird that if you'd like try something new, Old Navy skirts would be groovy.

I also agree with Chantal on appropriate dress. I wore t-shirts, cropped pants and (fancy beaded) flip flops last year. I'm thinking of going wild and maybe wearing a skirt and getting a pedicure this year so I won't be too embarrased if my feet end up on Flickr. ;-)

Just glad you'll be joining us no matter what you're wearing!

Um, yeah. Seeing as my entire wardrobe is from Old Navy too, I'm um...no help.

oh come now, you will look great. from the photos i saw from last year i don't get the sense that people were getting all fancy or anything. do you have target out there?? if i were going i would clothe myself entirely in target and feel fabulous! and i am the epitome of fashion whoredom! heh. but seriously, old navy ain't nothing to sneeze at. lots o' cute things for spring there.

oh, and black is always the way to go.

Just go naked, I'm sure it'll be warm enough and I bet it'd draw some traffic to your site.

That's it i'll be the pale naked one with the fresh wax!

woo hoo!

but seriously, i'm taking notes here in your comment section, jess. It's like a whole new world of things for me to worry about, looking nice and having cute clothes.

Like, hey, maybe I should buy my plane ticket too while I'm at it. God, I procrastinate a lot.
